In der FB Gruppe Chiang Mai Gardening Forum wusste ein Mann Bescheid. Der von mir gesuchte Baum aus den September Thai Five ist ein Sindora wallichii. Er gehört zur Familie der Hülsenfrüchtler, verständlich, auch wenn die Hülsen rund, fast handtellergroß und extrem stachelig sind. Das Holz ist widerstandsfähig, hart und wird in Südostasien gern für Möbel verwendet. Er scheint hauptsächlich in Indonesien heimisch zu sein. Umgangssprachliche Namen konnte ich nur auf Malaiisch und Thai (มะค่าแต้ makatae) finden. Viele Informationen gibt das Internet über diesen Baum nicht her. Auch die KI spuckte mir nur eine kurze, halbseidene, aber immerhin selbstbewusst formulierte, Mischung aus Fakten und Fiktionen aus.
Finally I know what tree it is I was looking for in my September High Five. Someone in the FB group Chaing Mai Gardening Forum wrote me: Sindora wallichii. It belongs to the legume family, which is obvious, even if the pods are round, flat, quite big and awfully spiny. The wood is resilient, hard and used for furniture in Southeast Asia. It appears to be primarily native to Indonesia. About informal names I could only find some in Malay and one in Thai (มะค่าแต้ makatae). The internet doesn’t provide much information about this tree. And the smart AI spit out a short mixture of facts and fiction, at least in a very self-confidently manner.
